The paper focuses on the growth process in transition economies and the main forces that have driven it. Our aim is to provide an evaluation of the role of different factors on growth performance in a group of transition economies which include Albania and other South Eastern European Countries (SEECs) by examining the growth effects of traditional and non-traditional sources as emerge from theoretical models. Conditional on data availability, we present empirical evidence, using traditional growth equations, of capital accumulation, human capital, trade and institutional factors on the growth rate of income per capita. Our results suggest that factor accumulation, together with institutional reforms, are the main driving forces of growth in these economies.
