Abstract

(Incipit) The set of laws on sea rescue is contained in a multilevel and integrated system of national and international rules that provide complex and often overlapping legal obligations. In this complex network, a differentiation must be made between rules of international law governing the rescue of shipwrecked persons, often referred to as rules of the law of the sea, and rules of European law, concerning the right of asylum. The prerogatives of national laws are incorporated into this complex system.
