Cosimo Raffaele Laneve was born in Taranto, Puglia, in 1939. After gaining his diploma, he began teaching at only 18 years of age in primary schools in the countryside. After graduating in Pedagogy in 1961 at the University of Bari, he then taught humanities in middle school (1966–1976) and human science and history in high schools (from 1977 to 1980). While in the schools, he began to cultivate a deep interest in the communicative aspects of teaching, which is the core of his youth research studies at the University of Bari.
