This essay examines the problem of the scientific and educational autonomy of economic law from a historical perspective and in the context of the debate on particular branches of law. It concludes that economic law is not an autonomous branch of legal studies, although it is useful as an introduction to market regulation and for providing a general perspective on the analysis of regulated markets.
