Starting from a Marxist reading of Ferdinand de Saussure’s Cours de linguistique générale, Ferruccio Rossi-Landi has attempted to apply what is commonly known as the “labour theory of value” to the field of semiotics, an interpretation of Karl Marx’s economic thought whose foundations have been strongly challenged by recent debate. In this article, I will show how Rossi-Landi explicitly claims to follow this theoretical approach, reproducing its terminological confusions and interpretative errors. These aporias are particularly evident when Rossi-Landi attempts to structure a theory of linguistic money, linguistic capital and linguistic exploitation.

Abstract
Starting from a Marxist reading of Ferdinand de Saussure’s Cours de linguistique générale, Ferruccio Rossi-Landi has attempted to apply what is commonly known as the “labour theory of value” to the field of semiotics, an interpretation of Karl Marx’s economic thought whose foundations have been strongly challenged by recent debate. In this article, I will show how Rossi-Landi explicitly claims to follow this theoretical approach, reproducing its terminological confusions and interpretative errors. These aporias are particularly evident when Rossi-Landi attempts to structure a theory of linguistic money, linguistic capital and linguistic exploitation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
