However, Frontinus’ approach to his sources, which is particularly noteworthy for this period of Roman history, clearly demonstrates that the aims of this work are not to report and reconstruct events of war, but to oπer examples of stratagems which are taken out of historical context and re-contextualised in a military function, in order to provide the generals with models of behaviour and examples to be inspired by.
