Abstract
Angelo Fortunato Formiggini was the first Italian Jew to commit suicide due to the racial laws (November 29, 1938). The advent of fascism led to the shattering of his ideals of universal peace and harmony which had always been dear to him in his life as a publisher and active cultural promoter. These ideals, together with his careful consideration of a cultured but inexperienced readership, guided his approach to the Latin and Greek classics. The aim of this article is to focus on the three key moments of this approach: the presence of classical texts in the series I Classici del ridere and the partnership with Concetto Marchesi, the promotion of a collection of Greek and Latin texts by Italian scholars, and his reviews in the journal L’Italia che scrive.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
