This study is the first of a series which has the aim to illustrate the results of the analysis that has regarded the most important scientific contributions about forest Ty-pology, supplied by Italian students from the beginning of the XXth century onwards. Its development, relative to the studies of the first half of the last century, has made possible to assure the first developments of the considered sector of Sylviculture and to underline the utilization in the forest management technique, applied to the Mediterranean forest, considered in its largest meaning.
