The strong growth of mariculture sector raises significant concerns about management of the produced waste that is frequently discharged into the environment without any treatment, thus creating negative effects on neighboring ecosystems. This impact is manifested at the level of the water column and sediments through organic enrichment and variations in the microbial pattern, with consequences on the environmental area and the quality of the breeding conditions. Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) incorporates species from different trophic positions or nutritional levels in the same system, providing both economic and environmental sustainability. This study deals with the synergistic bioremediation capability of the sponge Sarcotragus spinosulus (Porifera, Dictyoceratida) and the macroalga Chaetomorpha linum (Chlorophyta, Cladophorales) associated with the breeding of the European sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax (Chordata, Actinopterygii) and it is aimed at expanding knowledge for the implementation and development of an efficient integrated aquaculture system on a commercial scale.

Abstract
The strong growth of mariculture sector raises significant concerns about management of the produced waste that is frequently discharged into the environment without any treatment, thus creating negative effects on neighboring ecosystems. This impact is manifested at the level of the water column and sediments through organic enrichment and variations in the microbial pattern, with consequences on the environmental area and the quality of the breeding conditions. Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) incorporates species from different trophic positions or nutritional levels in the same system, providing both economic and environmental sustainability. This study deals with the synergistic bioremediation capability of the sponge Sarcotragus spinosulus (Porifera, Dictyoceratida) and the macroalga Chaetomorpha linum (Chlorophyta, Cladophorales) associated with the breeding of the European sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax (Chordata, Actinopterygii) and it is aimed at expanding knowledge for the implementation and development of an efficient integrated aquaculture system on a commercial scale.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
