The paper analyzes the contagion deriving between traditional dogmatic categories and scientific knowledge, in the context of environmental crimes and scientific evidence. Under the focal lens of criminal prosecution for environmental crimes, the issues that the use of scientific evidence is capable of triggering in the administration of criminal justice requires a comprehensive approach in order to harmonize internal principles and rules with European Union law, highlighting the opportunity to increase the effectiveness of scientific investigations and to harmonize the criteria for admissibility and evaluation of data acquired in the criminal process, also redefining environmental crime and identifying new criminal offences. In other words, what is needed is to encourage transnational cooperation, with harmonized investigative tools.
