This volume brings together research on documents, letters, and books connected to the life and work of Nicola Festa (Matera, 1866 – Rome, 1940), a philologist, Hellenist, and versatile scholar. He studied under Giovanni Pascoli at the Liceo in Matera, was a pupil of Girolamo Vitelli at the Istituto di Studi Superiori in Florence, and later became Professor of Greek Literature and Byzantine Philology at the University of Rome. The contributions collected here, originating both from a scholarly conference and from the rediscovery of part of Festa’s library within the collections of the University of Bari, aim to re-examine key moments and issues in the history of classical scholarship and textual transmission, as well as in cultural and political history. They also shed light on the personal and academic trajectories of scholars connected in various ways to Festa.
