The Murgia Materana Park: an opportunity for local development? The objective of this study is to verify, after ten years since the establishment of the 'Archaeological, Historical, Natural Rock Churches Park ' of Matera (also known as ‘Murgia Materana’ Park or the Rock Churches Park), how local actors have worked to raising the citizens’ awareness of the presence of this environmental and cultural good; the plans they have implemented to promote the return to nature, to arouse curiosity about the forms of production and organization closely tied to the past, to stimulate research in cultural goods as rare expression of distant relations with the territories, to promote and trigger paths of "playful ruralization" in this area.
