In the recent accounts on the ‘theory of recognition’, often the moral suffering of the subjects is seen as a form of social suffering coming from failed or denied recognition. In this contribution, I will show the recognition as a particular relation of the social suffering and not as a sublation of it. Mostly, I argue that in the suffering from recognition it is possible to outline two levels of the suffering «expressivity», one practical and the other dialectical. These two levels, if combined together, can provide a new empirical and normative lymph to the critical theory of recognition, allowing recognition to disentangle itself between moral suffering, social criticism, and public sphere
