Prosomal glands in mites show different morphological arrangement and connections with the gnathosoma. Both in Actinotrichid and Anactinotrichid two ducts, anteriorly located, collect the secretions coming from several glands. These secretions might have a salivary function. Several ultrastructural and chemical studies have been realized on the glands and secretions of larger species belonging to Anactinotrichid while regarding Actinotrichid, and in particular Prostigmata, available information is still reduced. In this paper a functional interpretation, on the basis of structural aspects connected to salivary injections in plant and animal tissues, is reported both regarding Actinotrichid and Anactinotrichid.
