Starting from a sub-periodization - I have worked on the years 1964-1967, the period that followed the economic miracle (1958-1963) and that come before "the long Italian 1968" (1968-1970) – this essay aims to investigate on the cinematographic social discourses focused on the actors and actresses lifestyle which imposed "wealth" as a discriminating value in Italian society. Despite the apocalyptic position of many authoritative voices, on the pages of the weeklies we are consulting it emerges, on the one hand, the great influence of the American consumerist model and, on the other hand, the centrality of the issue of purchasing power in the Italian public debate.
