By dealing with such topics as the search for one’s identity and the reestablishment of an unreachable past, this book fully fits the exile literature genre. The main character’s journey takes on a metaphorical dimension and becomes an interior voyage in search of a link capable of making a lost reality and the depth of the character’s soul come together.

This paper offers an insight in El penúltimo viaje. In this book, which was published in 1989, Alina Diaconú depicts a time and a space that have been lost and are impossible to go back to.
