We propose a study about two female characters (primarily about the protagonists) in Marta Portal’s narrative, related to the theme of the fragmented, hidden and sleepless self is offered. The autofiction 270 which delineates each text of the authoress can be found in many characters; these last acts starting from a deep and not always calm process to themselves. The narrative ways used by the authoress, always coinciding with the narrative voice which speaks from a weak point of view to an only corner of observation, define the individual character of histories exploring the limits (ethical, professional, social, amorous) of a woman who, because of many reasons, sets herself apart, at the edge of the society, both physically and mentally. In general, the authoress hasn’t received a big criticism and she has been progressively forgotten. Nevertheless, her literature belongs to a time of profound transformation for narrative texts (1966-1983); it is an alteration that, concerning Portal, affects the character and connote it with different and peculiar ways, in some cases. So, the self is an entity which deserves an accurate reflection related to themes such as the sexuality, occurred or desired, social bond, self-control and self-judgment.

Se propone un estudio sobre los personajes femeninos (sobre todo las protagonistas) en la narrativa de Marta Portal, en relación al tema del Yo fragmentado, escondido y desvelado. La autoficción que caracteriza cada texto de la autora se declina en varios personajes que actúan a partir de un profundo y casi nunca apaciguador proceso de sí mismas. Las modalidades narrativas que la autora emplea, siempre coincidentes con una voz narradora que habla desde un punto de vista reducido a un único ángulo de observación, determinan el carácter individual de historias que exploran los límites (éticos, profesionales, sociales, amorosos) de una mujer que, por razones varias, se encuentra relegada en un margen de la sociedad, tanto físico como mental. Por lo general, la autora no cuenta con una crítica extensa y ha caído progresivamente en el olvido. Sin embargo, su literatura se sitúa en una época de profunda transformación del texto narrativo (1966-1983), alteración que en el caso de Portal afecta al personaje y lo caracteriza de formas distintas y en algunos casos, peculiares. El Yo presentado es, por ende, una entidad que merece una esmerada reflexión en relación con temas como la sexualidad, ocurrida o deseada, el vínculo social, el autocontrol y el autojuicio.
