Abstract
Different types of maps depicting spatial distribution and activity of landslides are discussed in this paper. Analysis of the existing literature on the topic helped to point out advantages and drawbacks of each type of map, and their possible use for the assessment of the landslide hazard. Utility of the landslide maps was also illustrated by means of the results achieved for a real case study in Southern Italy, that highlighted in particular the good amount of information provided by landslide activity maps. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
