The article analyses Giles of Rome’s criticism of Ibn Gabirol’s philosophical positions. The most relevant points that Giles dismisses proceed from the ontology and cosmology of the Fons vitae: the role of matter and the pluralist theory of substantial forms. Notwithstanding his criticism, Giles of Rome is close to Ibn Gabirol: in his attempt to distance himself from Thomas Aquinas, he establishes a real distinction between being and essence.

Abstract
The article analyses Giles of Rome’s criticism of Ibn Gabirol’s philosophical positions. The most relevant points that Giles dismisses proceed from the ontology and cosmology of the Fons vitae: the role of matter and the pluralist theory of substantial forms. Notwithstanding his criticism, Giles of Rome is close to Ibn Gabirol: in his attempt to distance himself from Thomas Aquinas, he establishes a real distinction between being and essence.File in questo prodotto:
