The Greek verb περιασθμαίνω is unattested in Heliodorus’ novel yet is recorded in almost all modern dictionaries under his name alongside with Achilles Tatius’ one. In this paper is made an attempt to trace the origin of this error in modern lexicography in order to re-establish the truth: περιασθμαίνω is a hapax exclusively found in Achilles Tatius’ novel (IV.4.7).
