Does tumorectomy disease with unilateral Wilms tumor (WT) usually leave microscopic residual as is generally believed, or can it be truly extirpative, particularly when performed after preoperative chemotherapy? In an attempt to answer this question, we evaluated the operative specimens, obtained after a classic total nephrectomy, carried out in 11 consecutive, unselected children (Table I). The patients (nine with local disease and two with pulmonary metastases) had received preoperative chemotherapy according to the SIOP guidelines [1]. Subsequent treatment was established on the basis of stage and histology, as determined by nephrectomy.

Abstract
Does tumorectomy disease with unilateral Wilms tumor (WT) usually leave microscopic residual as is generally believed, or can it be truly extirpative, particularly when performed after preoperative chemotherapy? In an attempt to answer this question, we evaluated the operative specimens, obtained after a classic total nephrectomy, carried out in 11 consecutive, unselected children (Table I). The patients (nine with local disease and two with pulmonary metastases) had received preoperative chemotherapy according to the SIOP guidelines [1]. Subsequent treatment was established on the basis of stage and histology, as determined by nephrectomy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
