The stages of composition of an ancient text are the precondition of its transmission. However, they are very difficult to investigate since, except for the rare cases of authors who wrote about their way of work, evidence can be mainly drawn from critical and biographical literature. Such indirect evidence, anyway, can shed some light, also by way of analogy, on time, contexts and practices of ancient literary work. Within this framework, it may prove particularly profitable to address the vocabulary used in these sources: some first remarks on the Greek lexicon of composition are presented here.

Abstract
The stages of composition of an ancient text are the precondition of its transmission. However, they are very difficult to investigate since, except for the rare cases of authors who wrote about their way of work, evidence can be mainly drawn from critical and biographical literature. Such indirect evidence, anyway, can shed some light, also by way of analogy, on time, contexts and practices of ancient literary work. Within this framework, it may prove particularly profitable to address the vocabulary used in these sources: some first remarks on the Greek lexicon of composition are presented here.File in questo prodotto:
