Corpora have come of age in many fields of applied linguistic research, and translator education is undoubtedly one of them, as amply attested by the wealth of academic publications as well as conferences, symposia, and workshops that have been held worldwide in recent years. Given this general premise, in our paper we trace the development of corpus-based translator education from its origin to the present day so that we can look to the future with a clear understanding of the past. Knowing where we come from can help us appreciate the progress we have made until now and the direction we want to take to move forward. Our overview begins with the origin of Corpus Linguistics and Corpus-based Translation Studies. It then moves on to survey corpus-based translator education from the late 1990s till the present day. In our concluding remarks we point to future directions. The first author deals with Corpus Linguistics and Corpus-based Translation Studies. The second author focuses on current practices in corpus-based translator education.
