CRITERIA FOR THE RECOVERY AND RE-USE OF THE BUILDINGS IN THE ALPINE COUNTRYSIDE, THE CASE OF THE HUT BUILDINGS IN THE “PROVINCIA DI TRENTO” In order to define the strategy for a correct old hut buildings re-use, that has to be enviromentally sustainable and that, at the same time, enables a development of mountain countryside, a study was conducted in order to define: - criteria and methods for a functional correct re-use of old huts in Alpine zones; - the characteristics of Alpine building heritage and the need to develop and promote the summer Alpine cattle pasture; - a countryside analysis, in the Trento District, of the existing old hut buildings, underlining the touristic capacities and land protection of pasture areas; - the possibilities of restoration and utilization for cattle breeding, horse breeding, farm holidays, shelter, residence, catering. In order to make this analysis, thematic maps were used, that enabled to delimit the boundaries and to characterize areas homogeneous as exploitation capacities. The obtained results enabled to make a land analysis that is on the basis of proposals for the recovery and re-use for traditional aim, with a uniform land distribution of alternative activities, with attention to protection of environment and promoting the farm holidays. The analysis carried out, underlined: - the advantages that a correct re-use of old huts in Alpine zones permit; - possible development of farm holidays in Alpine fringe zones; - land and pastures safeguard; - cultural aspects of re-use of old huts for historical heritage of the land
