Piero Treves «non tacito critico». Lettere a Luciano Canfora e a Mariella Cagnetta

Five letters written by Piero Treves to Luciano Canfora and Mariella Cagnetta between 1975 and 1988 are published here. The letters, which deal with various themes in the history of classical studies under fascism, are animated by the question of whether it is really possible to study antiquities and write about them without morally compromising oneself with a despotic regime. The letters are embedded in the debate on the cultural roots of fascism that the historical school of Bari and the journal «Quaderni di storia» stimulated between the 1970s and 1980s.
