The essay outlines some of the elements that characterize the “new” intervention in the economy in a global perspective. The strategies of theEuropean Union in the global economic scenario are highlighted, with particular reference to planning coordinated with the States. One of the possible strategies is to make state aid rules flexible which, despite the temporary nature of the intervention, represents the most concrete attempt to make European industrial policy operative also as a reaction to the initiatives undertaken by the United States of America with the Inflation Reduction Act.
