This contribution, urged by the M.ED.I.A.T.I.O.N. project, admitted for funding for the Horizon Europe Seeds call for the University of Bari, focuses on the figure of the Me.PI, i.e. the Mediator for inclusion, which goes beyond the previous figure of the cultural mediator because it is characterized by a broader, multidisciplinary competence, an intersectoral approach and a gaze aimed at sustainable development, human rights and the enhancement of diversity. Pending official recognition by the Puglia Region, this "new" professional figure assumes a strategic role in the management of migratory phenomena. The Me.P.I. takes care of the migrant, fosters awareness of his/her right of citizenship, helps and supports him/her in school and work experience. Thus the paradigm of assistance to migrants is changed and active educational processes are triggered in order to combat educational poverty, early school leaving, to improve professional qualification and consequently to fight labor exploitation.
Sollecitato dal progetto M.ED.I.A.T.I.O.N., ammesso a finanziamento per il bando Horizon Europe Seeds dell’ateneo barese, il presente contributo sofferma l’attenzione sulla figura del Me.P.I., ossia del Mediatore per l’inclusione, che va oltre la precedente figura del mediatore culturale perché si caratterizza per una competenza più ampia, multidisciplinare, un approccio intersettoriale e uno sguardo proteso allo sviluppo sostenibile, ai diritti umani e alla valorizzazione della diversità. In attesa di un riconoscimento ufficiale da parte della Regione Puglia, questa “nuova” figura professionale assume un ruolo strategico per la gestione dei fenomeni migratori. Il Me.P.I. prende in carico il migrante, favorisce la consapevolezza del suo diritto di cittadinanza, lo sostiene e lo supporta nell’esperienza scolastica e lavorativa. Si modifica così il paradigma per la gestione dei migranti e si innescano processi educativi attivi per contrastare la povertà educativa e la dispersione scolastica, migliorare la qualificazione professionale, combattere lo sfruttamento lavorativo.
