For some years now, many geographical studies and other disciplinary fields have believed that historical rural landscapes contain an educational value for the landscapes of the future, in terms of analysis as well as protection in general and geo-economic aspects in particular, as an identity expression of the territory and as a preponderant element for the recovery of the same. In fact, in landscape studies the idea is widespread that historical rural landscapes are not only the elements of a cultural heritage capable of preserving the memory of the past, but also the bearers of a rational perspective for the future of European agriculture. It must be multifunctional, sustainable and in line with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, in relation to the contemporary socio-spatial context and its new challenges (Quaini, 2009; Antrop, 2005; Ferrario, 2018; Renes et al., 2019; Grillotti Di Giacomo, De Felice, 2019). Traditional rural landscapes are the subject of national and community policies of protection and enhancement. The Italian legislative references n.127 / 2017 and n. 1904/2019 are significant examples of the will of the public decision-maker to preserve and protect traditional landscapes as bulwarks for the defense of the territory and the soil; they are dedicated to the identification and conservation of the traditional landscapes of the characteristic citrus groves. By "characteristic citrus groves" we mean those with particular landscape, historical and environmental varietal value, located in areas suited to the cultivation of citrus species in which particular environmental and climatic conditions give the product specific characteristics, closely related to the peculiarities of the territory of origin. After a theoretical framework of the heroic and historical rural landscape, the work aims to answer the following research questions: can the agricultural landscape, with its historical-cultural values, respond to the challenges of the near future also following the recent disruptive pandemic? Could the rediscovery (or discovery) of ancient agricultural landscapes be an opportunity to renew practices in the contemporary rural landscape? We will observe the reborn process of recovering the values of the past by trying to integrate them functionally in the present as resources for new productive economic activities.

Abstract
We will observe the reborn process of recovering the values of the past by trying to integrate them functionally in the present as resources for new productive economic activities.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
