Abstract

The purpose of the article is to investigate the models, the ethical, ideological and cultural premises on which the assimilation of the power relations between the Carthaginians and the Romans to those between deer and wolves in Horace Odes 4,4,50-52 is based through the comparison with the poem 1,15: here the anti-heroic and deplorable behavior of Paris, mediated by the prophecy of Nereus, is assimilated to that of a deer fleeing at the sight of a wolf.
