This essay aims to reconstruct for the first time the story of Saint Ardalion, a mime martyred between the third and the fourth century, through an overall analysis of the related sources published so far. Furthermore, it highlights the significant common elements between the story of Saint Ardalion and the hagiographic tradition of martyred mimes, which developed from the fifth century onwards.
Questo saggio mira innanzitutto a ricostruire per la prima volta la vicenda di sant’Ardalione, mimo martire del iii-iv secolo, attraverso la complessiva disamina delle relative fonti finora edite, mettendo in evidenza i significativi elementi comuni tra la vicenda di sant’Ardalione e la tradizione agiografica dei mimi martiri, che si è sviluppata a partire dal v secolo.
