Data science, statistics offers a method of surveying human variables. At the crossroads between engineering sciences and social sciences, it is a way of exploiting certain raw data of existence. Indeed, through the analysis of frequencies and probabilities, it decomposes reality to better understand it. By exploiting figures and graphic representations, Charly Delwart tries to compose the biography of an identity: that which is its own, but which cannot be grasped except within a globalizing approach to life. It is in this regard that, in Databiographie (Flammarion, 2019), the winks to Belgium help to highlight the narrative quality of the relations between totality and its components. This contribution therefore aims to analyse the scriptural mechanisms put in place to build – re-build and de-build at the same time – a « biography » by ending by « deciphering ». With its quantitative approach, does statistics then constitute a resource or a trap for the literary register, a register destined to restore the unique dimension of an existence ?
