In this section, the biographical portrait of Jacques Lions is outlined from the perspective of his worldwide public engagement in a large number of scientific institutions, mainly in connection with the technological, computer-aided applications of mathematics. He is presented as a highly intuitive researcher, with a strong sense for innovations, who, for a very long time, has been occupying leading positions at an international level, among which the presidence of the International Mathematical Union (1991-1994). A selection of literature on his life and work and and a list of his publications related to the ICMI activities are also included.
