In this preliminary study the Epidural injection of a GnRH analogue (Lecirelin) for inducing ovulation in female dromedary camels was investigated. Twenty healthy female camels (Camelus dromedarius) were monitored through ultrasonography and ovulation was induced when a mature dominant follicle (Range 10–20 mm) was found. Fourteen Epidural injection of Lecirelin and six Epidural injection of Placebo were carried out and ovulation was diagnosed through ultrasonography and by Progesterone analysis. None of the female injected with Placebo ovulated whereas Lecirelin induced the ovulation in thirteen out of fourteen females. The epidural injection of Lecirelin could be an alternative treatment for inducing ovulation in female dromedary camels. More studies are needed to ascertain possible advantages of using the epidural administration route, compared with conventional routes.
