The book is dedicated to Baroque sculpture in Lombardy with particular attention to wooden sculpture and polychrome terracotta. He deepens the activity of workshops and artists starting with Anselmo and Virgilio del Conte, Giuseppe and Francesco Sala, Siro Zanella, the Cassinas and Giuseppe Antignati, along a chronological span that goes from the end of the 16th century to the end of the 18th century. It highlights the network of relationships and influences between workshops and centres of artistic production between Milan, Genoa and Rome, it investigates the routes of emigration and circulation of artists and works, the types of works, the patronage circuits, including above all the religious orders. The polychromy that unites wooden and terracotta sculptures responds to the needs of emotional involvement and aesthetic appeal and has achieved high results from a formal point of view over the course of more than a century, involving artists as Dionigi Bussola and Giuseppe Rusnati, also active in the Fabbrica del Duomo in Milan and in the Sacri Monti.
