Un filo rosso tra Laterza e «La Voce». Corrispondenze inedite e contributi della cultura vociana nel catalogo dell’editore

Il saggio mette a fuoco le relazioni intercorse tra la Casa Editrice Laterza e i principali esponenti del gruppo vociano nel primo quindicennio del secolo XX. Lo studio incrociato delle lettere inedite custodite nell’Archivio dell’editore e dei dati che si ricavano dal Catalogo storico Laterza fa emergere rapporti sinergici tra l’universo vociano e quello laterziano, che riguardano ovviamente la promozione dei volumi Laterza, ma a ben vedere convergono nella comune volontà di «star sempre al sodo», di svecchiare la cultura italiana anche attraverso il canale delle traduzioni, di far luce sulle diverse realtà del Paese, e ci restituisce così un’interessante pagina di storia dell’editoria e dei movimenti culturali del primo Novecento.

The essay focuses on the relationships between the publishing house Laterza and the main exponents of the group «La Voce» in the first fifteen years of the 20th century. By comparing the unpublished letters stored in Laterza’s archive with the data available at Laterza’s historical catalogue the paper investigates the synergies between «La Voce» and the ‘world’ of Laterza. Not only does «La Voce» contribute to promoting Laterza volumes but, on closer inspection, both Laterza and «La Voce» share their will to get to the point («stare sempre al sodo»); modernize the Italian culture by means of translations; shed light on the variety of contexts in Italy. The study provides some remarkable findings relevant to the history of the publishing industry and the cultural movements of the early 20th century in Italy.
