This paper aims to explore how ancient sites in the geographical area corresponding to modern Iran were perceived by local populations and how the latter related to the history of these places. The study of the travel journals will form the analysis starting point and the data will be contrasted with the evidence provided by Arabian historians and geographers in order to detect discrepancies with the information transmitted by the Western travelers.

Abstract
