This paper focuses on the Slavo-Serbian (i.e. Old Serbian) translation of a small corpus of Latin medical-pharmaceutical texts written by Salernitan medical authors during the 12th century, in particular the Circa instans attributed to Pseudo-Platearius and the Antidotarium Nicolai. To date, only one manuscript containing such a corpus is known, i.e. the codex N° 517 in the library of Hilandar monastery on Mount Athos, which is likely to have been produced in the second half of the 16th century. Using as a basis the conclusions of a previous examination of the manuscript's codicological features, a new hypothesis is advanced here on the circumstances of its origin. In addition, this study aims to provide an insight into the possible motives behind the translation of such a corpus, and to highlight the most striking details of the translation method.
