This paper studies the spread of the Italian exonym Oporto (vs. the Portuguese endonym Porto), whose first recorded examples predate the 17th century. The analysis of these new texts allows us to assume that the influence of the Spanish form Oporto as an intermediate form between Portuguese and Italian ones.
