The contribution focuses on Peter Rühmkorfs Hochseil (1975) and its re-writing of what ist perhaps the most renowned Lied in the whole German-language tradition: Heinrich Heine’s Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten, from the section Die Heimkehr of Buch der Lieder. By taking up his predecessor’s ironic approach, Rühmkorf, one of the leading poets in Post-War Germany, describes the risky attempt a poet – like a circus acrobat – has to undertake in order to find an (always unstable) balance between an exclusively artistic commitment verging on artistry and the inescapable confrontation with the political and social landscape– amid the disenchantment of modern times.

Abstract
The contribution focuses on Peter Rühmkorfs Hochseil (1975) and its re-writing of what ist perhaps the most renowned Lied in the whole German-language tradition: Heinrich Heine’s Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten, from the section Die Heimkehr of Buch der Lieder. By taking up his predecessor’s ironic approach, Rühmkorf, one of the leading poets in Post-War Germany, describes the risky attempt a poet – like a circus acrobat – has to undertake in order to find an (always unstable) balance between an exclusively artistic commitment verging on artistry and the inescapable confrontation with the political and social landscape– amid the disenchantment of modern times.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
