Abstract

Gian Burrasca, the story by Luigi Bertelli (aka Vamba), seemed to repeat a cliché that had already been successfully tried and tested by other authors of the same period. Youngsters became familiar with the adventures of the young troublemaker, which were considered educational, mainly through comic strips. The public did not consider that the lessons they contained had a political bent; adults did not realise that the adventures of this nineyear- old boy had a disruptive charge: they educated a new citizen. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that Giannino was paradoxically the bearer of both institutional values and innovative content. Gian Burrasca represents the forerunner manifesto of an energetic and rebellious youth that became the protagonist in the history of an era: the events narrated contributed to educating a model of youth that was the advocate of the cultural and political movements that conditioned culture, politics and schools in the first half of the twentieth century.
