This essay aims to discuss the relationship between the terms „prudentia“ and „providentia“ in the whole Cicero’s production. Firstly the study focuses on the definition of these two concepts, starting from their common etymology. Then it is demonstrated that their parallel evolution in Cicero’s thought is strictly connected to the evolution of his mentality and the political changes in the Late Roman Republic. Finally, the research shows a tendency of „back to the future“ in Cicero’s writings.
