The paper aims to investigate the consequences of the reduction in the number of representatives on the functioning of parliamentary groups, starting from the next Legislature. In particular, the reflection tries to outline the new possible conformation that the groups could assume in the near future, in order to keep in “balance” the constitutional arrangements desired by the “constituent political groups” in the Republican Charter. Starting from the assumption that groups are an “ontological subject of political representation” on which the political developments of the State formally depend, the essay is an opportunity to analyze some important aspects that characterize Italian constitutional democracy.

Abstract

The paper aims to investigate the consequences of the reduction in the number of representatives on the functioning of parliamentary groups, starting from the next Legislature. In particular, the reflection tries to outline the new possible conformation that the groups could assume in the near future, in order to keep in “balance” the constitutional arrangements desired by the “constituent political groups” in the Republican Charter. Starting from the assumption that groups are an “ontological subject of political representation” on which the political developments of the State formally depend, the essay is an opportunity to analyze some important aspects that characterize Italian constitutional democracy.
