Abstract

In Seneca's Fedra, Theseus’ rage towards his innocent son turned against the father himself according to that twisted mechanisms of reaction to an iniuria theorised in De ira. The seriousness of the crime, based on Fedra's false accusations, establishes the paradoxal overlap of Theseus over the stepmother figure. With dramatic overturning of the paternal model, it is himself who dismantles the pietas causing the death of his son Ippolito and depriving himself of a social identity making himself not only unnaturally orbus but also caelebs.
