The individual interdisciplinary contributions presented in this volume are brought together in order to reflect on the recurrent issues that emerge in terms of the influence of the Medieval and Renaissance on Italian cultural identity. The papers presented here, which range from literary studies to art, are used as a springboard for a discussion of whether we can convincingly talk of the unequivocal influence of Neomedievalism and the Renaissance on the cultural movements of today’s and yesterday’s Italy. By rethinking the stereotypes and generalisations commonly held about these time-periods we may concurrently revaluate the implications of our own gaze onto that past which forms the basis of our future.
