The aim of the article is to explore the quotations from the Bible (text or episodes) present in Machiavelli’s works and to investigate the meaning of the «sensible» reading that Machiavelli prescribes for the biblical text in the Discourses, in the manner of any other historical document useful for the elaboration of a political judgment.
