In El Cortesano (1561), Luis Milán includes, among other poetical material, a series of very interesting sonnets, both for their relevance in the context of his work and for the influence of Petrarchism in Spain they reflect. First of all, the analysis of this short collection of literary pieces shows how the sonnets were used in the court of the Duke of Calabria; at the same time, their relationships with the other literary genres in the Castilian tradition, the prosody, the intratextual connections show the problematic connection between these sonnets and the Italian tradition and allow the reader to examine the cultural reception of the Italian poetry in the Duke of Calabria court in Valencia during the XVI century.
