Most production systems are mainly based on the linear economic model, unsustainable from an environmental point of view. Therefore, a transition to the circular economy is necessary as an economic model capable of paying attention to negative environmental externalities, where eco-innovation plays a crucial role in the development of concrete models. Considering the literature in the fields of Eco-innovation (EI) and Circular economy (CE), this paper seeks to clarify findings at the intersection of these two fields. The aim is threefold: a) examine literature-based working definitions of CE and Eco-innovation; b) review the role of EI and CE’s at meso, micro and macro levels; c) characterize CE-inducing EI in terms of targets, mechanisms, and impacts.

Abstract
Most production systems are mainly based on the linear economic model, unsustainable from an environmental point of view. Therefore, a transition to the circular economy is necessary as an economic model capable of paying attention to negative environmental externalities, where eco-innovation plays a crucial role in the development of concrete models. Considering the literature in the fields of Eco-innovation (EI) and Circular economy (CE), this paper seeks to clarify findings at the intersection of these two fields. The aim is threefold: a) examine literature-based working definitions of CE and Eco-innovation; b) review the role of EI and CE’s at meso, micro and macro levels; c) characterize CE-inducing EI in terms of targets, mechanisms, and impacts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
