L’écriture de Maylis de Kerangal approche les sentiments, tout d’abord celui de « se sentir vivant », en prise directe avec le réel. Les sentiments sont pris dans le tourbillon de la vie et semblent constituer une expérience « externe ». Cherchant à cerner les impasses subjectives de la société d’aujourd’hui, l’écriture de Maylis de Kerangal, rapide, scandée par la virgule, avec des effets de heurt, rassemble en un seul mouvement réel et fiction pour dire le monde. Le réel qui émerge est un réel « créé », le réel de la fiction, dans le cadre d’un texte en train de s’écrire, qui traverse le présent avec un regard lucide sur la complexité des sentiments et des rapports humains. Ainsi, l’écriture se fait lieu de l’observation et de la discussion autour de l’acte d’écrire, en même temps qu’un outil de réflexion sur quelques traits de la prose de l’extrême contemporain.
