We prove the well-posedness of periodic entropy (discontinuous) solutions for the Degasperis-Procesi equation. Partly motivated by the bounded periodic solutions found by Vakhnenko and Parkes \cite{PV}, we study the long-time asymptotic behavior of periodic entropy solutions.
