Abstract

Leon Pinelo and Diego de Avendaño represent two of the most significant authors of the 17th century Peruvian philosophical panorama who, in close continuity with the avant-garde positions of the second school, rethink the relationship between Spaniards and indigenous people trying to balance the needs of Spanish politics of control of a multiethnic society with the ethical demands of the native population. This is the reason why the use of providentialism on the one hand and probabilism on the other, guaranteed a precise counterweight to every abuse, the only possible synthesis in the long process of recognition of the other.
